My name is Francisco Freitas, and I am a native of Rio de Janeiro—a city that would forever shape my relationship with art and work.
As a self-taught artist, I began my professional career at the age of 14 in a handbag and shoe factory, where I designed models that garnered great acclaim.
At 17, I joined a decorative panel manufacturer, creating sandblasted scenes etched into glass. My work there was defined by tropical exuberance—a crucial phase in the development of my visual style and craftsmanship.
At 21, I started working at Blue Man, a renowned swimwear brand. There, I reconnected with the tropical aesthetic and began creating iconic prints for the label. Over my 35 years with the company, my designs have been showcased on runways and featured on magazine covers.
Currently, I dedicate myself to creating prints that bear the hallmark of a Brazilian tropical aesthetic. My work depicts urban icons alongside tropical flora and fauna, all immersed in the poetic landscapes of Rio’s imagination. These elements are combined with a color palette dominated by blue and punctuated by fluorescent tones—a combination that defines the visual identity of my art.
My journey bridges manual craftsmanship and artistic creation, moving between the realms of design, pop art, and fashion, while remaining deeply rooted in the sensibility and tropical soul of Rio de Janeiro.
